Derrick Guide

Build a derrick only after its site and materials are ready, then read its own control board for depth, requirements and state. Tiered derricks are official, but exact level costs, depths and output values remain build-specific unless Steam or the game exposes them directly.

SHIFT BRIEF

Quick facts

  • Assignment belongs to a specific Derrick.
  • Passing another rig should no longer cause cross-rig interaction.
  • The official fix specifically names loading a saved game.
  • The public note does not identify the first affected build.
  • The patch ties the stopping behavior to the final extraction level.
  • It supplies no universal final depth.
  • Upgrade level should increase treasure chance.
  • The old scaling relationship was not functioning correctly.
CURRENT FIELD NOTES

Current-build changes: 1.0.1

Barrels now keep a specific Derrick assignment rather than interacting with other Derricks they pass. If a barrel appears to head toward the wrong rig, first confirm you are running 1.0.1, then follow that single barrel from its assigned rig to its destination. The patch fixes cross-rig interaction; it does not publish a new sales price or transport speed. Unexpected Derrick firing after loading a saved game is listed as fixed in 1.0.1. Update before reproducing the behavior and distinguish a save-load symptom from final-level behavior, which has its own patch change. A recurrence on an updated save is a new report to document, not proof that every saved game is broken or that a save must be deleted. Derricks now stop firing at the final extraction level according to the 1.0.1 notes. A stopped firing action at that final stage can be the intended result, rather than a machine-service failure. Read the rig’s stage before replacing parts or buying another upgrade. The announcement does not define an exact final depth or say that every stopped Derrick has reached the final stage. Patch 1.0.1 fixes the relationship between Derrick upgrades and treasure-find chance: the chance should now increase with upgrade level. No percentages, guaranteed treasure schedule or exact payout are supplied. Use this as evidence that the upgrade relationship was repaired, not as a promise that your next extraction will find treasure or that treasure income will repay a particular upgrade.

FIELD SEQUENCE

Walkthrough

  1. 01

    Read the field

Verify site readiness and the full material list before hauling parts to the derrick.

  2. 02

    Stabilize the bottleneck

Read the drill board instead of assuming a depth or consumable requirement.

  3. 03

    Record the result

Clear machine or maintenance warnings before treating slow progress as an upgrade problem.

  4. 04

    Choose the next move

Compare an upgrade against storage, worker and sale constraints before purchasing it.

Common mistakes

  • Applying pre-patch advice to barrel routing after patch 1.0.1 without comparing the corrected behavior.
  • Applying pre-patch advice to derrick firing after loading a save without comparing the corrected behavior.
  • Applying pre-patch advice to derrick final extraction level behavior without comparing the corrected behavior.
  • Applying pre-patch advice to derrick treasure chance and upgrades without comparing the corrected behavior.
  • Treating an editorial troubleshooting step as an officially tested workaround.
Patch-sensitive note
